Amen And Amen

“Henceforth and forever, Amen and amen!” Amen is a Hebrew word that means truth, truly, certainty, or verily. In Christian tradition, it is often used at the end of prayers or other rites to mean let it be so. When we say amen and amen, we are saying that this is true and we believe it to be true. Our prayers to God should not be like throwing messages in a bottle into the ocean, with no real hope that they will be received or responded to. If we truly believe there is a God and if we truly believe that He loves us and would do anything and everything to make our lives better - and we had better believe it because otherwise why are we even wasting our time with praying in the first place? - then prayer has to be the process of pleading with the Lord to reveal the truth and then sincerely committing to living out that revealed truth, no matter the consequences. Prayer cannot be some idle superstition, where we do it with the belief that it can't hurt and there's an off chance that it might actually help. Prayer has to be a powerful and vital force for good in our lives. Something that is true and certain and something that we prove our belief in by acting out the revelations and promptings that we receive. If it is, then we can truly say Amen and Amen henceforth and forever.
