More Faith In My Savior

“More faith in my Savior,” (“More Holiness Give Me”, Phillip Paul Bliss). Left to our own devices, we each have a finite amount of faith that we can have at any one time. If we put our faith in one thing then we have less faith to put it in something else. If we have enough faith that the stock of a particular company is going to rise that we invest our savings into it, then we have less money available, and also less faith available, to invest in something else. Therefore, if we want to have more faith in our Savior, then we have to stop putting our faith into other things. Whatever goals we pursue and dreams we chase and however much of our blood, sweat, and tears we put into such efforts, if we have exercised our faith in something other than our Savior Jesus Christ, then we have ultimately made a bad investment. Putting our faith in the things of this world is futile because nothing established by the hand of man is guaranteed to last. Nearly all of the companies that were the best, safest bets to invest in from one hundred years ago no longer exist today. Most of the biggest companies today didn't even exist thirty years ago and likely won't exist thirty years from now. Frittering away our precious faith on people and institutions and ideologies that are as fleeting and insubstantial as mists of darkness is a losing proposition. But the good news is that the faith we devote to our Savior Jesus Christ may begin as a finite resource, but it does not have to stay that way. The more faith we put into our Savior, the more faith He returns to us. And if we give all of that faith back to Him, He gives us in return even more still. In the beginning we may hand Him a particle of faith no bigger than a mustard seed, but when He is finished with us, our faith will be a mighty mountain.
