God’s Consuming Love

In 2 Nephi 4, Nephi’s heart sorroweth because of his flesh and his soul grieveth because of his iniquities. But a few verses later, he says that God filled him with his love, even unto the consuming of his flesh. We can be easily beset by temptation and sin. We can be weighed down with sorrow because of our iniquities and groan because of our sins. We can cry out that we are wretched and weak and small. But that’s OK. God loves us anyway. He loves us with such force and strength and power that he can burn away the weaknesses of the flesh, cast out our fears and chase away our doubts. He can lift us up as on the wings of eagles and He can root out the wicked spirit in our breast and give us a new heart, one that is teachable and peaceable and meek and yields easily to the enticings of the Holy Spirit.
