Heart Eyes

“But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.” (Moroni 7:47). Another definition of possess is to dominate or strongly influence, as of an idea or thought. If the pure love of Christ possesses us in this way, it occupies our thoughts and feelings to the point that it comes almost to dominate or swallow up all of our other thoughts. It makes sense. When we truly love someone or something, we can't get them out of our head. We study and obsess over every detail. We keep trying to figure out how to spend more of our time with them. However much our feelings of love for family, friends, and romantic partners, to say nothing of pets, hobbies, projects, and the like, can come to possess our thoughts and our hearts, when we allow the pure love of Christ to possess our hearts and our minds, it is a completely different experience. “And if your eye be single to my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in you; and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth all things.” When we are filled with the light and the love of Jesus Christ, we see what is really there and we care about it. We see the man beaten and left for dead on the side of the road and we don’t look away but run to help him. When we’re taking our paralytic friend to be healed, we don’t turn back when the crowds are too thick, but we climb up and break a hole in the roof. There is no fear or doubt or uncertainty in love. We are so possessed and filled with love that such tiny things like resentment and grudges and prejudice and vanity don’t even register to us, because we’re just so laser focused on helping our Heavenly Father bring out His great work of securing immortality and eternal life for as many of His children as possible. I know that when we our minds are occupied and possessed with the Love of Christ, we always will find it natural and easy to do the best thing for God, for our neighbors, and for ourselves.
