The Best Seasoning

I've heard it said that when it comes to food, hunger is the best seasoning. But I think that there may be one metaphorical seasoning that's better still and that is gratitude. Isn't it true that free food, or at least food that we did not have to prepare ourselves just tastes better? I think part of the reason that this is the case is because we are grateful that we did not have to spend the time to prepare the food ourselves. Saying a prayer of thanksgiving over every meal can get a little tedious or irksome but if a simple and heartfelt prayer of gratitude miraculously made a bad meal taste good and a great meal taste great, isn't that a practice worth pursuing? And moving beyond strictly food, having an attitude of gratitude can improve every aspect of our lives. Gratitude prevents us from taking the good things in life for granted, and it helps us to turn sorrow into wisdom as we gratefully receive even trials and adversities with the hope that even these things will be for our good. I hope that we will all continue to find reasons to season our lives with the magical collection of herbs and spices that is gratitude.
