“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39). From the bottom of the sea, in the belly of a whale, Jonah's prayer for mercy and forgiveness was heard and answered. From the bowels of dungeons and the mouths of caves, from the hearts of blazing fires and the midst of storm tossed seas, from dark and dreary wastelands, from the pits of hell and the gall of bitterness, our Heavenly Father hears the anguished cries of His children. Far from increasing the distance between us and God's love, our sojourns into the depths of pain and sorrow only enrich and strengthen our bond with God and help us to draw closer to him. “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33). There are hidden treasures of wisdom and mercy for those who are brave and humble enough to keep digging deeper and deeper. There are aspects of God and His love for us that we will only ever truly understand by searching for Him but high and low. However low we get, there is always more and more to discover. I know that there is no depth that can separate us from the love of God.
