God Will Never "Total" Us

Sometimes when a car is in a wreck and the damage is very extensive, an insurance company may come to the conclusion that it would cost more than the car is worth to fix it and the car is considered "totaled." Sometimes as we stumble our way through life, we mess up so badly that we are afraid that God will consider us totaled - damaged so badly that the cost of fixing us is more than we are worth. The worth of souls is great in the eyes of God. In fact, He values us so highly, and loves us so much, that He sent His Only Begotten Son to pay the price to fix all of us, not just once, but every single time we get into an accident, whether it be a minor fender bender or a full on collision. Christ will painstakingly replace every missing piece, repair every broken part, smoothe out every dent, and make sure that when He is finished with us, we are running as good as new, better, even. Sometimes we may have to run for awhile with a tail light out or a chip in our windshield until we have humbled ourselves sufficiently to put our full trust in our Savior and allow Him to make the necessary changes to fix what is broken. Sometimes we may have to spend days, weeks, months in the shop because the wreck we were in caused a lot of severe damage. We may have to allow Christ to strip us bare, remove all of the things we think are so necessary and important so that He can truly get to the root of the problem. It might seem to us like a waste of time for Christ to keep working on us when there is so much that must be done. He would surely be better off totaling us and dropping us off at the scrap heap and focusing on someone a little less damaged. But He won't do it. He won't give up on us. If He has to replace every single piece, down to the very last nut and bolt, if He has to go through the same process seventy times seven times, He will and He has gladly paid the price, no matter how high or how often. I know that sometimes we make mistakes and we want to just stay in the garage rather than let people see the big dent we got, but we can still drive and do what we need to do even if we have made mistakes. And if we have messed up so badly that we have to stay in the shop, we are no different than every other person. All of us have been in and will likely again be in accidents so bad that anyone in their right mind would consider us totaled, but that is something that God will never do.
