God Will Not Give Up On Us...Ever

Why doesn’t God ever give up on us? We may have tried a thousand times to keep our cool on the road and a thousand times still been filled with rage. We may have tried a thousand times to be on time and a thousand times we’ve been five minutes late. We may have tried a thousand times to be kind to our parents or children or siblings and a thousand times we’ve instead been critical or spiteful or cruel. Why doesn’t God ever just get fed up with us and zap us with a lightning bolt? God’s playing the long game. He’s a careful and determined and patient scientist. He knows that given enough time, enough trial and error, enough different variables, there may be some combination of circumstances and personal experiences and constant and abundant and unceasing grace where on that thousandth or millionth or billionth try, we actually do keep our cool, we are on time and we are kind. And that’s not to say that we can stop trying because eventually our failures will work themselves into successes with no effort on our part. And we also cannot grow complacent and assume that our eventual success will preclude us from ever failing again. But it may be that if we trust in the Lord and we are sincere in our efforts to overcome our weaknesses and failures, that we will eventually start to succeed more than we fail, and as rare as any positive outcomes may seem right now, we may reach a point where negative outcomes become just as rare. We have to learn to be as patient with ourselves as the Lord is patient with us. God is not giving up on us and we shouldn’t give up on ourselves either.
