"And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves." (Matthew 25:8-9). Gethsemane means olive press. When Christ suffered for all of God's children at the Olive Press, when the weight of the sins of the whole world pressed down on Him, it was the oil of Salvation, the Atoning power, the grace of Christ that oozed out of His every pore. This oil was bought with a price. He who paid beyond measure for this oil is willing to sell to all who are willing to enter into His terms. True and sincere repentance, the sacrifice of a broken heart and a contrite spirit, will buy us a drop of that precious oil. One drop may not be much on its own, but luckily we each have been given so many hundreds of opportunities every single day to repent that if we really made an effort, we could each stock up barrels and barrels of this saving oil. Entering into our own personal Olive Press to pay what little we can for this precious oil is never easy, but having enough oil to light our lamps will definitely be worth it. And we might begin to change our relationship with the repentance process as we begin to understand that it may begin with a painful trip to the Olive Press, but actually using the oil that we buy to light our lamps and let our light shine is just as big a part of repenting as the broken heart and contrite spirit.
