The mean or average level of good or evil in this world is determined by adding together all of the good and evil deeds of everyone in the whole world and then dividing by the number of people. If we are dissatisfied with the average level of good in this world, then we must examine how we are contributing to that average. In our own lives, do our choices and actions average out to be good or bad? Are there poor choices that are bringing down the average? Are there things that we can and ought to be doing that would justify or bring up the average? If we will renew our dedication to doing and bringing about good things in this world, then we will change that average level. We might even change it more than we ever dared hope. It is possible that in our attempts to do good we fall short of our good intentions and make things worse, or our efforts fall flat and don't amount to anything, or it was a really good idea and had the potential even to be executed really well, but somehow we got lost in the weeds and it never gets off the ground. On the other hand, it is also possible that our good deeds flourish and multiply and spread like a virus, infecting and inspiring others with the desire to be and to do good. The more and more people that see and follow our example and try to do good, the higher and higher the average level of goodness for the whole world will climb. I hope that none of us ever get tired of doing all that we can by justifying the means with our personal efforts to keep raising that average level of goodness the world over.
