Unencumbered

For David to triumph over Goliath, it would require a miracle. David wisely recognized that it would only be through the power of the Lord that He would be able to succeed. No weapon or armor, no matter how finely crafted, would be of any help compared to the might and strength of the Lord. So he got rid of the armor and the weapons and went out to face Goliath unencumbered and undistracted by worldly concerns that would be of no consequence and could only get in the way of his faith in the Lord. Sometimes we want to trust in the Lord but we also want to put on some armor just in case the Lord doesn’t come through. To have faith sufficient for miracles to happen means letting go of our fears and letting go of the armor and the security blankets we think we need. David trusted God with his whole heart, might, mind and soul and left nothing back. There was no doubt in his mind that God would save him and his people because he had no back up plan, no just in case armor. God will not allow anything to kill us before our time. I know we want armor when we go to face Goliath, but we don’t need it when we have the Lord on our side. The armor is only going to get in the way.
