“Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.” (1 Samuel 3:7). Samuel was only a boy and, as this scripture states, he did not yet know the Lord or the Scriptures when he was called to serve. Sometimes it might feel like the Lord asks us to walk in His path before we've really gotten the hang of crawling. We might look around and see so many people who are more qualified and who know the Lord better and who have had much more of the word of the Lord revealed to them. But the work we are called to do is only half of the reason that God calls us. He calls us while we are not yet qualified for a reason. He needs His work done, sure, but He also needs His servants to grow and rely on Him and learn from Him and get to know and to love Him on a much deeper level. In this way, not only does the work gets done, maybe a little sloppily or diffidently or imperfectly in the beginning, but better and better all the time, but also the Lord helps develop servants who are more skilled and more compassionate and more reliant on Him and more ready for the next call for which they will also not start out qualified but will be so much the better for it in the end. God is neither negligent nor stupid for calling us to serve in callings for which we are not yet qualified. He knows our weaknesses and our insecurities and our imperfections better than we do. But He also knows our strengths and our potential far better than we do. We may not know all that we must for our calling...yet. But if we trust that the Lord knows what He is doing and serve Him with all of our heart, might, mind and strength, we will get to the end of our calling knowing the Lord much better than we did, having the word of the Lord revealed to us in ways we couldn't have imagined, and find that by the time we are released from our calling that I'm the end we were finally qualified.
