Not Impossible Enough Yet

If we’ve been praying for a miracle and it hasn’t happened yet, maybe it’s not impossible enough yet. There’s a scene from the Sitcom How I Met Your Mother where the character Barney is praying for something and in the middle of his prayer he gets a phone call telling him exactly what he was praying for and he finishes his prayer saying something like, Never Mind, I didn’t need your help after all. It was for exactly this reason that the Lord told Gideon that he brought too many men with him to defeat the Midianites. To be clear, they were still going to need a miracle even when they had twenty-two thousand people. But God wanted to make it absolutely clear that this was a miracle. There would be no, never mind, turns out we didn’t need you, we were able to do it all by ourselves. The only way 300 could defeat an entire army is through the power of the Lord.If we are praying for a miracle, maybe the Lord is waiting until our impossible situation gets even more impossible. That way there will be no doubt in our minds that it was through God alone that the miracle happened, and not anything we did or could have done.
