“I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time. Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again.” (3 Nephi 17:2-3). A lot of the time when the Savior comes to us, standing at the door and knocking, trying to find and to save us when we are lost, we just aren't ready for Him. Obviously, some part of us wants to be saved, but we're just not strong enough in our faith or our humility to strip ourselves of our pride and our fears and let Christ into our lives. Perhaps we haven't prepared ourselves though yet. Maybe we haven't studied it out in our minds, and prayed with all of the energy of our souls to be filled with Christ's pure love. But if Christ has come and we were not at that time ready to receive Him, all is not lost. He will come again. As long as there is even the faintest glimmer of a flicker of a spark of hope and desire in our hearts to be saved, Christ will keep coming back. He knows how weak and fickle and internally divided we are and how we often when He comes to us we choose to reject Him or for any other reason have placed ourselves in a situation where we are just not prepared and ready to receive Him fully and completely in our current state. He will not give up on us. If He has to come and visit us and then come back again a thousand times, then that is what He is going to do. Christ fully believes that one of these days we are going to get it right and be fully prepared to receive Him when He comes unto us, so let's all work a little bit harder to prepare to receive Christ so that we don't have to keep sending Him home thirty empty-handed.
