There are certain signs that we just will not be able to read or comprehend if we are obeying the traffic rules and regulations. One type of sign that law abiding motorists will never read is the often overlooked but extremely essential Wrong Way sign. If we ever find ourselves in a position to read a big Wrong Way sign, then, first of all, we are extremely lucky that it took a sign for us to realize we were going the wrong way and not the bone-shattering, fiery collision resulting in our swift and untimely demise. But second of all, we need to get off the road as fast as we can before the aforementioned crash does us in. What is true for the roads is true for life in general, and also true for our relationship with our Heavenly Father and His signs in particular. The scriptures are littered with examples of prideful people who were obviously going in the wrong direction and didn't realize that up until they had made their decidedly ill-fated u-turn, there was a perfectly good reason that they could not read or understand the signs that they passed by. It is only when God finally points out to them that what us written plainly across the sign they so assiduously had been ignoring is the words “Wrong Way” in big letters that they finally can see the truth that they've been avoiding this whole time, usually right before they make a head on collision with an oncoming semi. If we are doing everything that we are supposed to and there are still signs that we cannot read, maybe it is because we are not yet ready for the mysteries contained thereon, or maybe it's because we're not stupid enough to drive the wrong way and the signs aren't for us so long as we continue on in righteousness. I hope we will all trust in the Lord's wisdom and content ourselves that not every sign He posts is directed specifically towards us.
