The Breadwinner

I just saw the new movie, The Breadwinner, in which a father gets in way over his head being a temporary stay at home dad and taking over all of the household chores and responsibilities while his wife pursues an exciting new business venture. When his wife finally returns after the house has literally fallen apart and all of his failures are laid bare, he humbly tells his wife that he thought he could just try to be her and do everything her way and he failed miserably, but even just trying to be her made him a better version of himself. Isn't this the point of Jesus Christ's invitation for us to try to become like Him? Christ doesn't expect us to succeed in becoming perfect like He is. He doesn't want to create a bunch of carbon copies of Himself where we look and act and think exactly like He does. But the harder we try to become like Him, even when we fail we simply become better and better versions of ourselves. Jesus invited us to pray every day to the Father to give us each day our daily Bread. Christ is the Bread of Life. We can pray each day sincerely to our Father in Heaven to give us a daily portion of the Spirit and the enabling power of Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life. Yes, we will fail every day at perfectly emulating Jesus, but we will still see our own lives get better and better. We may never be the Bread, but we can still be Bread Winners as each of our failures puts us farther ahead of where we would be if we never tried to be like Jesus in the first place. Jesus is so happy for us when we put our whole hearts into becoming more like Him and end up becoming more like the version of ourselves He always hoped we could be.
