Two Edged Sword

When I was a kid I was really into this series called the Lost Years of Merlin by TA Barron. In the series there is a magic sword called Deepercut. It is a two edged sword and one edge is so sharp that it can cut into the very soul. The other edge can heal any wound. In the scriptures, the Lord often says that His word is quick and powerful, sharper than a two edged sword. But I like to think that the word of the Lord is like the magic sword Deepercut. If we are guilty, the truth can pierce us to our soul. However, if we are penitent, then thanks to the Atonement of Jesus Christ, there is no hurt or damage that cannot be healed or mended. The Lord speaks both justice and mercy, hard truth and tender peace. The more we grow in wisdom and in favor with God, the more we will understand the reason and the necessity of God having two edges, one to cut through the lies and delusions, the other to heal us from our hurts, and we will start to recognize that whether God is speaking to us with the voice of thunder and earthquakes or with a still small voice, it all comes from a place of love and hope.
