The Father Of All Lies

“And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind. Wherefore, he said unto Eve, yea, even that old serpent, who is the devil, who is the father of all lies, wherefore he said: Partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.” (2 Nephi 2:18). The most effective lies are the ones that we tell ourselves. That is why Satan is the father of lies. If he were responsible for every single lie, he would face much more resistance. But instead, he gets us to lie to ourselves. We are much more likely to believe our own lies than the lies from someone else. We don't have as acute of an immune response to lies that originate within. If Satan can get us to lie to ourselves that we are responsible for our own redemption, that we have to suffer and pay the price for our own sins, that we cannot turn to our Savior Jesus Christ because we do not deserve His mercy, then if Satan wants us to be miserable forever, just like himself, then all he has to do is give us the occasional nudge with some temptation or other, any of them will do, and then he can kick back and relax as we continue churning out lie after lie to justify why we don't just reach out to the Savior and have Him save us. Satan is very busy. He's got to keep all eight and a half billion of us stuck in our own lies. He tees us up, but then he moves on and lets us do all of the hard work. We always have a choice of whether we are going to do the work of the father of lies or the Father of Truth. The father of lies is always going to keep us captive and working harder and harder with nothing to show for it. The Father of Truth wants to set us free and give us rest. All of us have fallen for Satan’s lies at one point or another. He's been doing this a long time and is very good at it. But if we start believing our own lies, we only have ourselves to blame. If we have been doing Satan's dirty work, then let's go on strike. Better yet, let's repent fully and completely so that we may have the Holy Ghost and especially the Spirit of discernment to help us figure out what is true and what are merely lies. I know that if we open our hearts and our minds to our Savior Jesus Christ that no lie will be able to survive His blazing glory.
