The Light Rejoiceth

“The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.” (Proverbs 13:9). Light is the fastest thing in the universe. Light has to always be in motion, racing as fast as it can from one place to the next. Light literally vibrates with energy and excitement. Light itself rejoices when it is allowed to shine forth and do what it was meant to do, which is to bring the joy it feels to touch as many people as possible. We have to let our light shine, not just because it blesses our lives and the lives of others, but also because the light hates to be cooped up and it wants to get out. If we are wicked and trap our light in a lamp to keep it all to ourselves with a greedy and jealous list, then that light with nowhere to go is going to get put out. We think that by hoarding to ourselves the light and the joy that is normally found in the light then there will be more for us because we don't have to share it. But keeping our light to ourselves is like keeping a champion racehorse locked up in the stables so no one else can ever see it race or get any enjoyment from it. One thing’s for certain, if we treat the fastest horse in the world like that, it's not going to stay the fastest for very long. The light of Christ that can and ought to shine through us is eternal and infinite. The only way to extinguish it is by smothering it with our greed and jealousy. As long as we keep sending the light out, the light will continue to rejoice and bring that joy everywhere it goes, often reflected back to us, amplified and more excited and joyous than when we first let it out.
