“More purity give me,” (“More Holiness Give Me”, Phillip Paul Bliss). The kidneys are the body's natural way to filter out toxins and purify our blood. For people dealing with kidney complications who are thus incapable of purifying their blood themselves, there is a treatment called dialysis. Dialysis involves pumping a person's blood through a series of filters and processes that help to strip the blood of waste and toxins and then return the purified blood back to the body. Our kidneys are doing this constantly but if that is no longer an option, then this dialysis process may need to be done several times each week to keep the patients alive and as healthy as they can be. Like a person going through renal failure is incapable of purifying their blood, we have a similar problem when it comes to being unable to purify ourselves on our own from the toxins and filth of sin polluting our spirits. And just like a dialysis machine can give a patient the purity they desperately need, Jesus Christ can give us purity through the process of repentance and forgiveness. Dialysis uses ultra pure water to help filter out a patient's blood. As pure as that might be, the blood of Jesus Christ is infinitely purer. In addition to offering up a broken heart and a contrite spirit as part of the repentance process, we have the opportunity of giving Him our Spiritual blood so that it may be filtered and cleansed and purified through His pure blood, and then He returns that purity back through us, so that we are forgiven and cleansed every whit. And just like dialysis is not a one time event but must be undergone on a weekly or even daily basis, we must undergo our spiritual dialysis just as often, if not more so. We do not need to languish with the toxins of sin permeating our Spirit, robbing us of peace and corrupting our joy and service. We can give over our impurities to Christ and He will give to us a new heart and a new spirit, filled with new purity and new serenity.
