The Word Was God

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1). Does God keep His Word because He is God, or is He God because He keeps His Word? When God speaks the Words, “Let there be light,” why do the light and the darkness obey His Words? God is His Word and His Word is God. He has demonstrated time and time again, from the level of self-centered annihilating electron and positron pairs to the hearts of supermassive black holes that swallow whole galaxies, and everything in between, that if He promises something, that promise is fulfilled. Out of all of God's creations, we are the only ones who have been blessed with the power of Words. We have the opportunity to become like God. All that is required is that we treat our Words with the same sense of responsibility and reverence as our Father in Heaven treats the Words He utters. If we say we are going to do something, then we do it. If words come into our mind that are not true and cannot be fulfilled, then we hold our peace and keep such words to ourselves. When there is an air of intimidation and falsehood and a great black silence is crying out for the truth, we do not remain silent but use our Words of Power to defend the truth as though our lives and the fate of the world depend upon it. We do not speak foolishly or carelessly. We have been given the power to alter and shape the world around us. We are children of our Father. When we speak, the universe listens and obeys. If we say let there be light, then there will be light, and we will be able to see for ourselves that the light is good. If we say let there be darkness, then there will be darkness, and we will see that it is not good. I hope that we will learn each day to use our words in a way that would make our Heavenly Father happy and proud to have given us this gift and responsibility.
