Resistance Is Futile
In the first chapter of Third Nephi, it is said that a day was set aside by the unbelievers for the sign to appear that was prophesied by Samuel the Lamanite to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. These unbelievers thought that they were working against God's plan. They thought that they could pick a day to destroy all of the believers of Christ and put an end to the whole Christian experiment. But Christ's birth had a lot of signs associated with it that had to have been set in motion thousands or millions or billions of years in advance. The unbelievers did not know that their supposed act of rebellion was actually playing right into God's plan. It's like the serpent in the Garden of Eden all over again. He thought he would mess up God's plan by getting Adam and Eve to partake of the fruit and fall, but their fall was part of the plan all along. The unbelievers thought they had picked the perfect day to destroy the church of Christ, but the day they thought they had picked on their own was actually the same day that Christ had chosen to come into the world. Any kind of rebellion against God and His plan is ultimately futile because God sees the end from the beginning and He has already planned for every possibility. We may think that we can thwart God's plan but He has already woven our choices into the fabric of His plan. I imagine more people believed after seeing the sign come on the day that the unbelievers set aside than would have if the sign had come earlier. God will use everything we do to advance His work and His glory. It is up to us whether we want to be a collaborator in that work and glory, or if we want to be a painful reminder that no unhallowed hand can halt the work of the Lord.
