Fully Immersed

The word baptism means immersion in the original Greek. When someone is baptized, they are fully immersed in the water, without even a single toe or strand of hair sticking out. Baptism is the gate to the gospel path. It is also a useful illustration to the level of commitment to that gospel path. Living the gospel means full immersion. We can't get by with merely sprinkling a few good principles into our daily lives. It is not enough to merely dip our toe into the gospel. If we truly want Jesus Christ to save us, if we truly want to become perfected in Christ, if we truly want to one day return to live with and grow alongside our Heavenly Father for all of eternity, then we need to go all in on the gospel of Jesus Christ, without even a single toe or strand of hair sticking out. Our souls were designed to be fully immersed in the Living Waters of Jesus Christ. Trying to make it our own way without the help of our Savior is like a dolphin trying to make it across dry land. It may flop a few feet forward, but it's going to be a huge struggle, filled with lots of pain and with no chance of making any meaningful progress. If we are trying to live by the world's standards and don't seem to be making any progress, it's because we weren't meant to roll around on our bellies in the dry and desolate wilderness. We are meant to swim fully immersed in the Living Waters of the Gospel, caught in the powerful current of God's love drawing us nearer and nearer to Him every day.
