In the Parable of the Talents, the master chides the slothful servant who merely hid his talent and notes that he could have at least given it to the lenders so that he could have made interest on it. In a similar way, the Lord gets killed on the interest on our debts when we try to hide our sins from the Lord. There's no logical reason for us to delay our repentance. It's not like Christ doesn't already know what happened. He is a co-signer on all of our debts. All of the bills go to Him. But He can't clear out the debt until we come to Him and repent. Until that happens, those debts just keep collecting interest. We prolong our suffering, and since Christ felt everything that we felt and more, we prolong His suffering as well. If our goal is to minimize the debt that Jesus has to pay on our behalf, then we need to repent immediately, before our sins have a chance to accumulate interest. Even our largest sins, when promptly repented of, represent only a tiny fraction of the debt that we incur compared to even our smallest sins when we allow them to collect compound interest day after day and year after year. I hope that we will do both ourselves and our Savior a favor and strive to repent immediately so that we don't have to keep paying interest.
