Why Seek Ye The Living Among The Dead?

“And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen” (Luke 24:5-6). How do we go on trusting God when He allows our dreams to die before our very eyes? It is really hard. When we are wandering through the graveyard of the once bright future that we had imagined with all of our hopes and yearnings, it can seem almost impossible to find any hint of a loving God, especially one who promised to uplift and sustain us and fight our battles. But why would we seek for the living God among the dead? Why should we hope to find evidence of God's love for us hidden among the shattered pieces of our broken hearts? When we choose to doubt God and His love for us, we forget that death is not the end. Yes, we can watch our life's ambitions go up in smoke. We can feel the agony of defeat. We can welcome in the suffocating despair that our one great chance for happiness has been snatched from us. But once we have wandered among the tombs for as long as we can bear, maybe then we can remember that Christ has risen. He broke the bonds of death and shattered the gates of Hell and although He occasionally permits us to lose the things we loved the most, it is only so that their resurrection can be all the more glorious. If we feel that our dreams have died and are completely beyond repair or recovery, that does not mean that they cannot be resurrected through the grace of Christ. Let us stop torturing ourselves by looking for the living among the dead. Yes, our dreams died, but they can live again and be much better than we could have ever imagined. I know that none of us will lose out on a single ounce of the happiness and glory and joy that our Heavenly Father has prepared for us if we will only continue to place our trust in Him.
